Metatarsalgia

Another common foot condition that can affect the bones and joints found at the forefoot. Metatarsalgia often affects the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th metatarsal bones but the first or (big toe) joint and 5th are not always spared this painful condition.

There are many factors that can cause this painful foot condition but the most common causes we find are:

  • Improper Footwear
  • Ill Fitting Footwear
  • Lack of Metatarsal Arch Support
  • Displaced Metatarsal Bones (Arthritis, Bunions, Stress Fractures)
  • Repetitive Stress
  • Successful treatment and future prevention of Metatarsalgia require a proper shoe selection and fit along with proper metatarsal arch support and cushioning. A shoe with a rocker type sole, like a running shoe, can also help reduce stress at the ball of the foot.
